It’s Tax Time!

It’s tax season and that means forms, forms, forms!

Important news from the Kansas Department of Revenue:
Being sensitive to the changing economic climate, the Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR) no longer produces and distributes a large number of paper documents. Instead, instructions, sample tax forms, and schedules can be accessed on the KDOR website.

New State Librarian

Governor Mark Parkinson has announced the appointment of Joanne (Jo) Budler to the post of Kansas State Librarian.

“We are very excited to welcome Jo to Kansas,” said Parkinson. “Her 25 years of experience and leadership in state libraries will ensure that homes and schools across our state continue to receive the important services the Kansas State Library has to offer.”
For the past five years, Budler has served as the Ohio State Librarian. Previously, she was the deputy state librarian for the Library of Michigan and the director of Network Services and NEBASE, the State of Nebraska’s Online Computer Library Center network. She holds a master’s in library science and a master’s of fine arts in Writers’ Workshop, both from the University of Iowa.
Budler will replace interim State Librarian Marc Galbriath, who served in the role since June 2009 after former State Librarian Christie Brandau announced her retirement.
The State Library of Kansas provides on-site and online information services for state and local governments, other state agencies, state legislators and legislative staff, local libraries and their users as well as Kansas citizens, residents and visitors. It shares resources and government information; delivers information and solutions; educates librarians and trustees; promotes literacy and reading for everyone; and advocates for open and equitable access, intellectual freedom and excellence in library services and support.  The State Library’s current mission is to deliver 21st Century library services and resources to all Kansans.

New Library Catalog

NExpress is a partnership of 21 libraries in the Northeast Kansas Library System stretching from Atchison to Carbondale, from Silver Lake to Bonner Springs. In March 2009, the Carbondale City Library joined NExpress.  By the end of 2009, 30 libraries will be represented.

What does this mean for you? Our shared collection includes over 450,000 items.  Patrons can now search the catalog from this website, place holds and have materials delivered and returned by courier.   This allows you to see a history of the items you have checked out, keep lists of your own searches and requests, and easily get materials from other NExpress libraries.

We are issuing new plastic library card to all of our patrons.  Patrons are asked to fill out a new application with updated information including email addresses. When you receive your new library card you will be given your login information to access the catalog.
